I can’t believe how great I feel. My chronically painful neck, shoulders, back due to muscle tension is completely gone on 1st day of treatment. I can actually touch my chin to my chest! My right arm was painful at the joints, muscles and I had a throbbing pain. I had this for 3 months and used a splint. Was told it is neurological. On 1st day of treatment, 100% better. I cried with relief. I didn’t know how much pain I was living with and how much of my happiness I’d lost. I’m now 3 weeks into treatment and still pain free and with excellent range of motion! I was unable to lift my left arm from the elbow to the shoulder for several months. I had more than one ailment when I first came in. One shoulder was stiffened up and had limited range of motion. Painting the ceiling was extremely painful. Thank you for last night! I have to admit it was difficult for me to let go and let someone manipulate the most sensitive parts of the hurting parts of my body. But I trusted Mike. You told me what to expect the next 24 hours, and it has been exactly that. I left my car parked at Cartridge World and walked to my car, just across Madison Avenue. I didn’t even get to the corner to cross the street when my eyes were tearing-up and I wanted to cry! I tried to get a handle on my emotion when it hit me! My hip injury happened in 2002. Since then I have had the feeling that my right hip was guiding, or dragging my left hip forward. Last night, my left hip was the one that was moving forward. My right followed. It was powerful! My bed is high, and it was not difficult to get in it. It was not painful to turn over on each side. I didn’t feel the need to put a pillow between my knees to “equal” my hips. My left hip didn’t hurtwhile I slept on it. My ears didn’t scream so loud and my heart felt less stress. What did happen was my dreams!! I am a dreamer, but never so vivid in color or meaning. I dreamed I was on a Dr, Suess theme park, and The Cat In The Hat was poking fun at me. It was very strange. Today I moved around lovely. When I got home I took Spencer for a walk from Fair Oaks, to Citrus Heights, to Carmichael and back to Fair Oaks. Probably six blocks. But he is happy again.

1) How I was when I first started Bowen…….
Daily pain, a lot of time in bed, low energy. I stopped teaching at home because I couldn’t keep up with my two kids. Did not get to do things I enjoyed. I thought I was managing because I was used to my routine of doing things, rest, etc…..that wasn’t working. I was used to quitting “life” to lay down and deal with the pain. 17 days out of the month, I was dealing with PMS and my period.
2) How the sessions were………..
Seeing Mike was very comfortable. I looked forward to my appointments. Honestly, with Bowen treatments, you barely “feel” anything, you just let it work. At the beginning, I KNEW it was having an effect. After only 2 or 3 treatments, I didn’t even realize that I was feeling better, but I was riding my bike with the kids, feeling more in control, WAY less pain. I reduced my pain medication by A LOT.
3) How I felt when finished………
I was sad to be finished with treatment, but I was excited to take care of myself on my own….live the right way, manage my lifestyle better,….in order to maintain the benefits I felt from Bowen. I was down to 1/4 of a pain pill mostly to avoid the withdrawing effects after being on them for so long.
I still get pain, BUT…….I look at what I was doing and know it was because I made bad decisions and pushed my body. With Fibromyalgia, I’ve learned you can be in control if you take control and stop forcing your body to do everything you THINK you can do or must do. There are only a very few things you MUST do each day. The main thing is take care of yourself.
Oh, and regarding PMS and my cycle……my 10 day PMS lessened to a couple days before I began and my 7 day (heavy) cycle, is now only 3 days.
4) What I’m doing to maintain………
I know I have to not just limit myself, because to me, that means pushing myself just close enough to wearing myself out. Now I know I have to do things simpler, plan things simpler. Do only a little at a time – not everything all at once. I still go too far at times, however, I know better now, and I don’t often make that mistake.
I’ve really appreciated being able to experience the benefits of Bowen therapy. It has helped my tremendously, taught me so much, and enabled me to be a better mom, wife, friend.

After about five months of Bowen Treatment, I have virtually eliminated pain medication, which was my goal. Also, I rarely experience “episodes” or “flare ups” as in the past. The change was subtle and gradual with noticeable improvement after about two months. In the past, my hips would ache so badly I was almost in tears, my arms ached so much I dreaded fixing my hair, and my knees and ankles hurt much of the time. How wonderful it is to stand up after sitting and not feel pain. Because I am not now in constant pain, I am able to realize how lucky I am to find this blessing.
