Summary: The hamstring muscles are regularly implicated in recurrent injuries, movement  dysfunction and low back pain. Links between limited flexibility and development of neuromusculo skeletal  symptoms are frequently reported. The Bowen Technique is used to treat many conditions including lack of flexibility. The study set out to investigate the effect of the Bowen Technique on hamstring flexibility over time.  An assessor-blind, prospective, randomized controlled trial was performed on 120 asymptomatic volunteers. Participants were randomly allocated into a control group or Bowen group. Three flexibility measurements occurred over one week, using an active knee extension test. The intervention group received a single Bowen treatment. A repeated measures uni-variate analysis of variance, across both groups for the three time periods, revealed significant within-subject and between-subject differences for the Bowen group. Continuing increases in flexibility levels were observed over one week. No significant change over time was noted for the control group.

Mark could hardly walk. Driving was a “white knuckle” experience

When Mark came to us a few months ago, he hobbled through our door, dragging his foot.  He could barley walk, he was in so much pain.  Driving was a white knuckle experience and he described himself as a “basket case” when remembering that time.  He just returned from a 2 week cruise to the Mediterranean and brought us all of these key chains from the places he visited.  He hiked.  He danced.  He enjoyed the gym on board the ship.  “I’m doing extremely well”.  Yey

Fair Oaks Bowen Therapy Helps With Bulging Disk Pain

In 2001 I was in head-on collision.  I probably should not be here, but thanks to God and the excellent airbags in my Avalon- I came out with just two herniated disks in my back and neck.  The disc in my neck was so bulging into my spine & doctors told me if I don’t  have surgery I could  jar it enough to permanently damage my spine.  Instead, I increased my dosages of EnerPrime and Prost ‘Elan,  and I truly have not had pain except on occasion from over-doing.  Recently, the pain has  increase.  My shoulders, arms and hands were starting to swell up.  Even touching my skin hurt.  During the night, there wasn’t any position I could get into to relieve the pain.  Again, I increased the two supplements and things would get better for a couple days and it would be back.

I started going to Mike Mc Gee at Fair Oaks Bowen Therapy because of the wonderful things I’d heard about his work.  I went for 4 visits and now have had one full week completely without pain. I feel great!!!!  I can’t thank him enough for what he does.  I truly feared I would need surgery and letting anyone near my spine was probably adding to my stress and pain.  However, that is now all gone and Mike is the hero in this story!

Thank you Mike and Kathy for all you do!  Blessings,  Kim Money

The “plucking” technique that eases any ache
The touch therapy innovation proven to relieve chronic pain in 85 percent of patientsScanning the smiling faces all around her, ViciLee Jacobs mused, I must be the most miserable person ever to step foot in Disneyland. With chronic back pain causing her to sit out most rides and complain on those she did attempt, ViciLee started feeling like she could give the nasty Cruella De Vil a run for her money.

What started as discomfort grew into severe pain as ViciLee got older. Countless physical therapy and chiropractic visits, as well as a slew of anti-inflammatory drugs, hadn’t helped. In fact, over the years the pain radiated into her hip and legs, as well. “I was barely functioning,” she remembers.

Fortunately, she ran into an old friend who had become a trained practitioner of the Bowen Technique. ViciLee’s pal was confident that the holistic therapy, which relieves pain by applying light pressure to muscle and connective tissue, would help. Skeptical yet desperate, ViciLee decided to try it. “As I lay on the treatment table, there was no poking or prodding—in fact, she barely even put her hands on me. It didn’t fill me with very much hope.”

The touch technique that gets to the source of pain
The gentle nature of Bowen therapy may not seem capable of producing serious reductions in chronic pain, but patients in a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill study rated its effectiveness in

remedying back and neck pain at over 85 percent. “Rather than employing invasive manipulation, Bowen therapy uses the thumb and forefinger to ‘pluck’ muscles in a specific sequence,” explains Victoria Bowmannn, Ph.D., a Phoenix-based Bowen practitioner. This gentle pressure sends signals through the proprioreceptors (the nerve endings within the muscles) to the brain, telling the body to reset itself to a pain-free state.Typically, only two sessions are needed. Each appointment lasts about 30 minutes and costs $45 to $75 per session. (It is usually not covered by insurance.)

“I had forgotten I could feel so carefree and energized!”
Within five minutes of Bowen therapy, ViciLee felt her body relax more than it had in years. “I still find it hard to believe that I suffered so much and for so long from something that was able to be cured so quickly,” says ViciLee. “The pain relief and general well-being I now have are things I had forgotten I could feel! We’re already planning another trip to Disneyland, and I guarantee Cruella will be nowhere in sight!”

Bowen Helped Me With Osteoarthritis & Neck Restrictions When Nothing Else Did

I’ve been living with thumb joint pain for 12 years.  I suffered with loss of gripping ability.  I wasn’t able to do the simplest things.  The hand surgeon said I had Osteoarthritis of the CMC joint of both thumbs.  Surgery wasn’t an option, so I was sold thumb splints and left believing I was to manage the excruciating pain for the rest of my life.  A friend told me about Bowen.  I immediately researched it and decided to try it.  I asked Mike if I had to BELIEVE in the technique in order for it to work.  Mike said that my autonomic nervous system was responsible for healing and my thoughts didn’t matter.  Let me tell you!  I may have had doubts when I first arrived, but I got converted real fast!  Bowen is simply amazing!

The most fascinating part is that the body heals in the order IT needs to.  First area of healing for me was my neck.  I could barely move it from side to side since an accident in ’85.  I was surprised and delighted at having improved mobility from the very 1st Session.  My thumbs have opened up.  I have use of my hands again.  I haven’t needed my thumb braces or splints at all since the first week!  I’ve had a total of 5 Sessions at Fair Oaks Bowen Therapy.  Mike and Kathy are the best.  So much healing has gone on for me that I think Bowen HAS to be good for just about anything.  I’m telling eve3ryone I know who’s suffering with pain about this.  I now believe that Bowen should be FIRST on any one’s list.  It’s gentle, effective, and lasts.

The Bowen Technique Is NOT an Afterthought

Some businesses have “Bowen” Practitioners on staff.  Some businesses “teach Bowen”.  If your practitioner has not had their training through The Bowen Academy Of Australia, chances are very good, they are NOT performing The Original Bowen Technique.  There IS a difference.  The Bowen Technique is gentle.  It’s safe for EVERYONE including infants and the frail.  It is fast – generally 3 to 5 Sessions handle most complaints.  It is precise, and it is different from anything most people know.  Know this, tho:  It Works.

At Fair Oaks Bowen Therapy, we’ve completed our education through The Bowen Academy Of Australia, which has the strongest direct connection to the source, Tom Bowen. The Academy holds all practitioners to the highest of standards and provides a meticulous educational structure. In addition to our basic classes in The Technique, we’ve completed advanced training with Ozzie and Elaine Rensch, who worked directly with Tom Bowen, and other noted Original Bowen Technique certified instructors.
